Title:

Precision laser spectroscopy of simple atoms

Abstract:

Precision laser spectroscopy of simple atoms, e.g. hydrogen, helium and lithium, has
played important role in testing QED calculations and probing atomic nuclei. Recent
developments utilizing novel methods have opened up new possibilities for precision
spectroscopy. These techniques include, for example, the use of laser-cooled atoms and
the application of femto-second optical frequency combs.
In this talk, I will first review several precision measurements that had led to great
physics discoveries. I then will report and summarize our spectroscopic results of
helium low-lying states, which were completed during the past few years in NTHU. Our
recent progress in Rydberg two-photon spectroscopy will also be discussed.
