Title: Transfer Matrix Revolutions
 
Abstract: In this talk, I will discuss how to use transfer matrices of symmetric tensor networks to understand the topological phase of Kitaev models.   First, I will discuss how Z2-symmetric PEPS can be used to understand the Abelian to non-Abelian transition in the spin-1/2 Kitaev model on the star lattice.  Second, I will discuss how we use the Z2-symmetric PEPS to characterize the ground state and the excitation spectrum of spin-1 honeycomb Kitev models. Generalization to the Zn symmetric case will be discussed.
